Located in a building about a 3-minute walk from JR Kanda Station, this casual salon is open 5 times a day from early morning to evening. The “Matcha 3-dish Experience” course (125 minutes, ¥4,360) allows you to learn at once how to make dried sweets using a wooden mold, two kinds of seasonal wagashi, and how to prepare a cup of thin tea.

All tools and materials are provided, so you do not need to bring anything, and you can taste the finished wagashi and matcha you made yourself on the spot. English-speaking staff will give you a detailed lecture for beginners, so overseas visitors can participate with ease.

2. Matcha Cafe Chazen (Asakusa)

A 3-minute walk from Asakusa Station, this Japanese-style cafe offers a combination of Japanese sweets making and tea ceremony experience. First, you will choose one of two types of seasonal fresh sweets, and form a kneading dough under professional guidance. After that, you can choose your favorite tea bowl and have matcha green tea served.

The process takes about 45 minutes and costs from 2,000 yen. On weekends and holidays, you can enjoy an extraordinary experience in a lively atmosphere. The finished wagashi and green powdered tea can be photographed in a seasonal alcove, creating a memorable experience.

3. Tokyo: Matcha and Kimono Experience(Shinjuku)

The setting is a kimono salon converted from a nighttime dining bar, a 6-minute walk from Yotsuya Station. After changing into a kimono that can be easily put on, participants will learn about the basics of matcha tea in a lecture and experience the tea ceremony in about 90 minutes.

Hosts are representatives of the international tea ceremony organization “Charyukai,” who provide detailed instruction on everything from authentic tea ceremony etiquette to how to prepare tea at home. The fee is 8,500 yen, and native English-speaking travelers are also accommodated. The small class size (maximum 8 students) makes it easy to ask questions and spend quality time.

4. Tea ceremony experience salon ‑wasako‑(Asakusa)

You can enjoy a relaxing matcha experience on tatami mats in a Japanese-style salon just a minute walk from Asakusa Station. The 45-minute session (7,000 yen) begins with a selection of sweets and a bowl of matcha, followed by a tea ceremony demonstration.

Next, visitors can experience the bliss of making powdered green tea with a tea whisk by themselves, and taste it with sweets. At the end of the tour, you can have your picture taken with the Japanese-style room as a backdrop. Combined with kimono rental (extra charge), this will be a memorable experience of a lifetime.

5.Gion Tsujiri Tokyo Skytree Town Solamachi

Located on the 6th floor of Solamachi, a 1-minute walk from Oshiage Station, this store is directly managed by a long-established store in Uji, Kyoto. The shop offers photogenic sweets such as “Tree Soft 3 Colors” (matcha green tea, hojicha green tea, and genmaicha brown / 890 yen including tax) and o-no-cha soft serve ice cream (630 yen).

The winter-only “Matcha Zenzai” (780 yen including tax) is topped with a white bean, sweet potato nectar, and gorgeous gold leaf to create a taste unique to the teahouse. We also have a full lineup of tea leaves and matcha confections for takeout, making them perfect for souvenirs!
